Ryan Malcomson Ms. Woelke ERWC Period.5 7 May 2015 Reflection Throughout my four years attending great oak I have done many projects, essays and a few presentations. My most memorable and favorite assignment I did was a presentation in 10th grade English on abortion. I enjoyed doing this presentation because I was passionate about it and that was one of my turning points with becoming comfortable talking in front of an audience and it was a good experience for public speaking. My presentation was ten minutes long and I was supposed to persuade the class on my own personally opinion and belief on the topic. I enjoyed teaching the class about something they might of not known or been aware about. I received all fours on this assignment and presentations, my in 10th grade teacher was Mrs. Bricker. Throughout my first two years my grade sheets all seemed to have the same issue they were blank or had terrible scores. When I was a freshman and sophomore I was not the “Ivy league” student per say, nor am I now but my grades and participation in school definitely became better in realizing I had to go to college and become a productive person in society. My grade sheets throughout junior year contained mostly threes occasional fours and a few ones and twos. My writing has improved immensely and my vocabulary has expanded greatly since freshman year. I have grown in writing and public “speaking” shown in my grade sheets. My vocabulary has improved but due to lack of effort on the vocab test they do not show it. My portfolio sheets during my freshman and sophomore year had many blanks because I was not a very motivated or driven student I did not realize the importance of school and how it is the base for your adult life. The failure to this category was just myself lacking focuses as a young student. As I matured and stepped into reality my grades approved and I started to take school seriously my grade sheets improved and the grades I received on assignments improved as well. I could see as a student my writing improved, I had many more fours as an upperclassman in my writing category. I lacked in my vocabulary section because I did not study prior to vocab test causing my grade sheet average to go down. My speaking category was overall good I had many threes and fours because I like to talk and that has been a trait I have kept with me throughout my high school career. Great oak has prepared my greatly for my next adventures in life, I have matured and become smarter throughout my courses at Great oak. Having teachers of all backgrounds I have become more open minded and understanding for real life situations. Great oak has prepared me for college and taking courses like AP world, Spanish and expository writing and reading I have help me get ready for college and my plans after college. I have learned a tremendous amount throughout my high school experience and hope to apply it in college and in life. Ryan Malcomson
Mrs. Bricker English/Period 6 4 May 2013 Persuasion on Abortion Abortion is when the parent of an unborn child chooses to terminate the fetus internally inside the fetus. The persuasion of this topic is to not agree with abortion and the inhumane procedure that comes along with abortion. In the united states of American the mother has the last and final say about the life of the child. In the mid 1900s the option of being able to not face the consequences of sex was being by passed with the thought of abortion. Many Mothers were regretting the mistake of receiving an abortion and fell under depression and stress. People who do not agree with abortion say the fetus is a living organism and has a heartbeat. Studies show that the child does have feeling, with theses statistics abortion should not be legal and it should count for the murder of human being. They made it illegal in the United States for parents to force their child to obtain and abortion. An abortion can be in a few different ways; you can get a pill where the fetus is neutralized and is flushed out of the female’s uterus. The pill is eligible until 9 week it is a non-surgery way to have an abortion. One of the most common abortion processes it the surgical procedure. The surgeons pull the fetus and placenta and remove it. Not all mothers want to have an abortion some have to abort the pregnancy because of health issues or risk of self-harm. The procedure when a mom chooses to abort the child is an elective abortion. The thought of the child not having a say in its own life makes people in regard to this subject sick. There’s a lot of persuasion to the topic of abortion, the child does not have a say in its own life, and if you where aborted you couldn’t have an abortion so it could be you. Many do not understand the amount of stress and depression a mother who aborted her child goes through and the feelings and pressure it takes to make the decision. Prior to 1940 women could not and did not have access to abortion. Abortion is a very sensitive topic and people need to respect that, Chicago made it illegal for women to have an abortion for most cases and could not just choose to abort the fetus without proper cause. A abortion is unconstitutional to women’s ability to terminate to their pregnancy and should not be aloud without curtain requirements. Until abortion is made illegal all around the global there will always be a group who will attempt to persuade someone away from abortion.
